Mechanical engineering faculty members Reinhard Radermacher and Yunho  Hwang will receive funding for their research on solar cooling and photovoltaic cells in dense array as part of a collaboration between the University of Maryland’s Institute for Systems Research (ISR) and Italy’s Autonomous Province of Trento. The partnership between ISR and Trento provides financial backing for research in the fields of bioengineering, biomedical devices, bio-microsystems, renewable energy and storage, nanomaterials, and microsystems. Radermacher and Hwang's project was one of three chosen from a pool of ten papers submitted both by Maryland faculty and faculty from Trento. The project also involves Professors Roberto Brusa and Sebastiano Turrini of the University of Trento’s Department of Physics as well as Prof. Mario Dagenais of Maryland’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
