Distinguished University Professor and Minta Martin Professor of Engineering Ashwani K. Gupta received the American Society of Thermal Fluid Engineers (ASTFE) award at the 10th Thermal and Fluids Engineering Conference (TFEC-25), held in Washington D.C. from March 9-12, 2025.

 A faculty member in the University of Maryland’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Physical Science and Technology, and an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Gupta was recognized for his contributions to the development of high temperature air combustion technology (HiTAC), and for other contributions in combustion research.

 His research in these areas aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

 Professor Gupta has published widely and garnered numerous accolades during a career spanning more than four decades. He has authored or co-authored over 850 technical papers, three books, 18 edited books, and 22 book chapters. In 2022, a report by Stanford University listed him among the top 2% of scientists in the world in terms of citations across academic fields. He is an honorary fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA). and a fellow of several other professional associations and societies.

 In 2023, he was elected a fellow of the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering. This recognition was bestowed by Princess Anne during a formal induction ceremony in London.
