Dr. Jungho Kim, the head of the Phase Change Heat Laboratory, will become a full professor effective July 1, 2008 according to university President C.D. ?Dan? Mote.
Professor Kim has been a member of the University of Maryland ME faculty since 1998. Kim?s research focuses on fundamental investigations of phase change heat transfer phenomena, with an emphasis on boiling heat transfer in earth and microgravity environments, transition boiling, spray cooling heat transfer, and solid-liquid phase change heat transfer for electronics.
In 1990, Dr. Kim received his Ph.D from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and he became an American Society of Mechanical Engineers fellow in 2005. He currently serves as an associate editor of the International Journal of Multiphase Flow.
Professor Kim also holds a patent for a non-uniform temperature profile generator for use in short-duration wind tunnels, which he received in October 1994.
