The John and Maureen Hendricks Charitable Foundation has pledged $1 million to various institutions in the University System of Maryland (USM), including $450,000 for the University of Maryland Energy Research Center (UMERC).

UMERC is a multidisciplinary initiative dedicated to advancing the frontiers of energy science and technology, with a special focus on forward-looking approaches for alternative energy generation and storage.

Other institutions to benefit from the gift include the University of Maryland School of Medicine ($250,000), University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute ($200,000) and the USM Environmental Sustainability Initiative ($100,000).
