The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a successful Research Review Day open house on March 19, 2007 at the University of Maryland campus. The event featured lectures on computer security, fuel cell innovations and biomechanical heart valve research among other topics. Tours of mechanical engineering department labs, including the Smart Systems Lab, Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) labs and the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE) Heat Pump lab took place during the morning session.

Department Chair Prof. Avram Bar-Cohen opened the afternoon lectures in the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center, introducing keynote speaker Dr. Mel Bernstein, Vice President for Research at Maryland, who shed light on the direction of interdisciplinary research at Maryland.

After the lectures, a graduate student research poster exhibition & reception was held to showcase outstanding research among graduate students. Go here for more detailed information on the lectures and outstanding graduate research poster awards.

Next year's Research Review Day will take place on Friday, April 4, 2008.
