George E. Dieter Professor of Mechanical Engineering and CALCE EPSC Director Michael Pecht will be the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished International Service Award, to be presented by University of Maryland President C.D. Mote, Jr. on November 28.

The award, to be presented at the Office of International Programs' International Day event, is designed to recognize significant contributions to the University during the past few historic decades when international programs were being developed for the first time on our campus. The main criteria for selection are: one or more significant contributions to the development of international institutional programs at College Park; and a distinguished international career.

"He has established for himself a distinguished international career through tireless efforts and has strengthened the University of Maryland?s position and recognition abroad. He is highly deserving of this award," states department Chair Dr. Avram Bar-Cohen.

Congratulations to Professor Pecht for this outstanding recognition for the University and Department.
