Leila Jannesari, a Ph.D. candidate working with Professor Abijit Dasgupta, was recently awarded the 2005 Charles Hutchins Educational Grant from the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) and Circuits Assembly magazine. The title of the project is ?The Effect of Voids, Caused by Manufacturing Variation, on the Thermo-mechanical Durability of Lead-free Solders.?

The $5000 grant is awarded annually to a graduate-level student pursuing a degree and working on thesis research in electronic assembly, electronics packaging, or a related field. Jannesari has been invited to the conference to attend the sessions and present her project. This is the first time a student from Maryland has received this award.

The award will be presented in SMTA International conference on September 28 in Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ilinois.
