Professor Ashwani Gupta and his students from the ENME 489A (Air Pollution) toured the General Services Administration Power plant located on C and 13th Street SW in Washington DC on November 4, 2004. The visit was arranged by former Maryland student Delories King in ENME 489W during the Spring semester of 2004.

Jeffrey Hertz guided the students to the entire facility. Hertz is also a former Maryland grad from the ENME 489W class in 2004 and is now a Mechanical Engineer at GSA. He was extremely helpful and enthusiastic to show the students the full operation of the power plant as well as the air pollution equipment used to monitor selected pollutants from the plant. The students were able to see detailed insightful hardware and appreciated the visualization of the operating power plant in a real world situation, and to relate the experience to classroom instructions.
