The Society of Manufacturing Engineers has selected Assistant Professor Satyandra K. Gupta to receive the 2001 Robert W. Galvin Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award. This award is conferred in recognition of Dr. Gupta's significant achievements and leadership in the field of manufacturing engineering as a young engineer. It ranks in stature with the SME International Honor Awards and the SME Award of Merit. Dr. Gupta was one of nine recipients selected to receive this award in 2001.

In a letter of congratulations to Dr. Gupta, Robert A. Dougherty, Chairman of the International Honor Awards Committee of SME, stated, "The SME International Honor Awards Committee is deeply impressed by your accomplishments and feels the Society's prestige will be enhanced by your selection to receive this award."

Dr. Gupta will receive the award at a major SME event of his choosing in 2001.
