Dr. Michael Pecht, Director of CALCE

In April, Dr. Michael Pecht, George E. Dieter Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering, delivered keynote speeches at two different conferences, both focusing on the importance of PHM (prognostics and health management) for batteries. The first, “Battery Management Systems- The Key Challenge to the Electric Vehicle,” was presented at the 2nd International Conference on Electric Information and Control Engineering in Lushan, China.  Pecht then presented in Dayton, Ohio, giving an address on “Battery Health and Safety Management” at the 2012 Prognostics and Health Management Solutions Conference. At the end of May, he will travel to Shenzen, China, to give a presentation at the IEEE Battery Management System Conference.

In addition, Professor Pecht has been named the Chief Editor of the Society for Reliability and Safety (SRESA) Journal of Life Cycle Reliability and Safety Engineering. This new journal is a quarterly publication that covers topics in system reliability analysis, structural reliability, and risk-based applications. The journal was launched during the International Workshop on New Horizons in Thermal Hydraulics and the first issue was published at the beginning of the year.

The Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) is the largest electronic products and systems research center focused on electronics reliability.  The Center is dedicated to providing a knowledge and resource base to support the development of competitive electronic components, products and systems.

For more information on CALCE visit their website and for more information on Professor Pecht, visit Mechanical Engineering Faculty.
