Professor Siddhartha Das is the 2026 recipient of the AES Electrophoretic Society Mid-Career Achievement Award, which recognizes exceptional contributions to electrophoresis, microfluidics, and related fields. AES announced the award recently on LinkedIn.

Das received the award in honor of his research concerning flows of liquids and ions in soft nanochannels, which are nanochannels grafted with charged polymer chains. The award will be conferred officially at the annual SciX Conference, scheduled for October 4-9 in Reno, NV. During that event, Das will deliver a plenary award talk and lead a special session featuring invited speakers.

Grafting nanochannels with charged polymer chains enables unprecedented control of fluid and ion transport through the nanochannels. Such transport can be leveraged for potential applications in areas as diverse as medicine and oil extraction. By using new theoretical approaches as well as molecular dynamics simulations, in which every atom of the system is probed, Das has been able to study such liquid and ion transport in polymer-chain-grafted nanochannels with remarkable precision, leading to discoveries of many unique phenomena in such nanofluidic systems.

Das’ work has brought him international acclaim and a succession of honors, including election as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and induction as a Lifetime Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials. His more than 210 journal publications include papers in ACS Nano, Advanced Materials, Macromolecules, Matter, Nano, Nature Communications, Nature Materials, Nucleic Acid Research, PNAS, Science Advances, Soft Matter, and Trends in Chemistry.

He is the fourteenth recipient of the AES award since its establishment in 2013. Prior awardees include Lisa Flanagan (University of California-Irvine), Jason R. Dwyer (University of Rhode Island), and Robbyn K. Anand (Iowa State University).

The AES was founded in 1981. Since that time, it has worked to advance electrophoresis and related fields by fostering collaborations between academia and industry, organizing its annual conference, and honoring pioneers and distinguished researchers in the field, including Das.
