U.S. News & World Report?s "America's Best Graduate Schools 2005" ranks the A. James Clark School of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering graduate program as one of the most favorable in the nation. The Mechanical Engineering graduate program ranked 24th overall, and 15th amongst public institutions. The department ties with the University of California - Santa Barbara and the University of Pennsylvania.
The Clark School of Engineering as a whole is ranked number 16 (10th among public universities), tied with Princeton University and University of California, Los Angeles.
Out of seven programs, six engineering disciplines in the Clark school have been ranked among the top 25. Specifically, Aerospace Engineering is ranked 9th (5th among public universities), Electrical Engineering is ranked 14th (8th among publics), Computer Engineering is ranked 16th (9th among publics), Civil Engineering is ranked 22nd (15th among publics), and Materials Engineering is ranked 23rd (13th among publics).
