Assistant Professor Steven Buckley has been named Chair of the Environmental Engineering Division of ASME. The division, which has approximately 1400 primary members and over 8000 associate members, has technical divisions working in environmental technology, risk management, and policy. Working with other areas of ASME and other technical societies, they sponsor or co-sponsor conferences related to radioactive and non-radioactive waste management, environmental technologies, risk assessment, and emerging issues in air pollution, water pollution, and the environment. His term is for one year.

Dr. Buckley is the recipient of the 2001 NSF Early Career Development Award and the 2001 ONR Young Investigator Award for his research in particulate matter, toxic metals, and volatile organic species in vehicle emissions.
