The Center for Environmental Energy Engineering has been selected to receive the Peter Ritter von Rittinger International Heat Pump Award.

The award recognizes deserving individuals or teams that have distinguished themselves in the advancement of heat pumping technology applications, market development, as well as dissemination activities with lasting international impact. This year the award was presented virtually to three teams at the closing ceremony of the 13th International Heat Pump Conference in South Korea on Jeju Island, on April 29th at 03:00 am EDT.

"It is my great pleasure to recognize these dignified nominees and honour them with the most prestigious prize in the field of heat pumping and technologies," said Stephan Renz during the ceremony. "Our award winners are undoubtedly some of the most influential individuals in the history of IEA HPT TC."

The award is named for Peter Ritter von Rittinger, an Austrian engineer credited with the design and installation of the first practical heat pump system at a salt works in Upper Austria in 1856. The award was presented for the first time at the IEA International Heat Pump Conference in 2005 in Las Vegas USA, and is awarded once every three years at the International Heat Pump Conference.

"I am very excited about this award since it is an outcome of our team efforts by all of CEEE’s current and past faculty, staff, and students," said CEEE. Co-director Yunho Hwang. "Let’s Go CEEE!"
