The University of Maryland's Tau Mu Chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, the National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Society, has presented Associate Professor Jeffrey Herrman with its inaugural Appreciation Award.
Dr. Herrmann was chosen to be the recipient of this award in recognition of his sensitivity towards the events of September 11. In a letter written by Chapter President Rebecca Lynch, she states that he was "one of the few teachers that allowed and encouraged their students to talk about this tragedy in an open forum. We appreciate your work and your sensitivity towards your students. We want you to know that your actions were recognized as both outstanding and exemplary."
Pi Tau Sigma has started this award to recognize professors that they feel have performed above and beyond the already high expectations placed up them. Dr. Herrmann was nominated by a Pi Tau Sigma member, and it was unanimously determined by the chapter as a whole to recognize him.
