Professor Marino Di Marzo has been named Chair of Fire Protection Engineering and will step down as Associate Chair and Director of the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering, effective July 1, 2001. In announcing this to the Department, Chairman Davinder K. Anand stated "As the Director of the Graduate Program he has done an outstanding job for which we are very thankful." Dr. Di Marzo will continue to be affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as well.

Begining Fall 2001, Professor Ugo Piomelli will be the new Associate Chair and Director of the Graduate Program. Previously serving as Acting Director several years earlier, he was responsible for the block grant funding from the Graduate School. In announcing this appointment to the Department, Chairman Davinder K. Anand stated "I am confident that Ugo shall continue in the fine tradition of running the Graduate Office well and do an outstanding job. Please join me in welcoming Ugo to his new position."
