ATLANTA - On January 12, 2019 the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) announced that UMD Research Professor Yunho Hwang was recognized as an ASHRAE Fellow during the Society's Winter Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

ASHRAE members who have attained distinction in the fields of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation or the allied arts and sciences through invention, research, teaching, design, original work, or as an engineering executive on projects of unusual or important scope are honored with the rank of fellow. The individual must have made substantial contributions and have been a full grade member in good standing for at least ten years prior to the date of their election.

Prof. Hwang is a faculty member within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and also serves as Associate Director of the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering.  He works extensively on energy efficiency enhancement in energy conversion systems and development of novel energy conversion processes.

"It is the volunteer effort of people such as Dr. Hwang, which allows ASHRAE to contribute technological advances for the benefit of the industry and public," the announcement read.

The Center for Environmental Energy Engineering is a leader in research and education in environmentally responsible, economically feasible integrated energy conversion systems for buildings and transportation. Research focuses in particular on air-conditioning, refrigeration and heat pumping and integrated cooling heating and power systems.
