Physics of Failure Based Reliability and Evaluating Lithium-Ion Batteries Short Courses CALCE is offering two half-day courses on evaluating lithium-ion batteries best practices and physics of failure based reliability at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Dr. Osterman's 8:30 AM course introduces classical reliability concepts and relates the concepts to the physics of failure approach. The information provided in this course will be useful for implementing a physics of failure methodology for the life cycle of a product. Participants will learn how to develop and migrate to physics of failure based reliability assessment programs from current practices. Read the course abstract. Dr. Xing's 1:30 PM course will offer an introductory course covering battery fundamentals related to materials, configuration, degradation and failure mechanisms, modeling, testing, and evaluation. This course will provide a guidance approach to qualify, select, and test lithium-ion batteries from different vendors. Participants will also learn best practices for assessing failed batteries to prevent future failures. The short course will introduce the knowledge and skills to improve the safety and reliability of battery-powered products. Read the course abstract.
