ARLIS - Cybersecurity Assurance and ...

UMD MATRIX Lab | LinkedIn

Test and evaluation (T&E) has become a vital aspect to nearly every industry including the defense, energy, homeland security, manufacturing, and medical domains. For any new technology, whether it be a product or a process, that is developed, it undergoes some form of T&E prior to commercialization and deployment. T&E's main priority is to provide evidence and insight to enable informed decision-making. This includes supporting a range of decisions such as whether a technology should be further developed, whether it is ready to be fielded, and if it will meet user expectations or performance targets. While T&E is leveraged throughout many domains, its body of knowledge is constantly being built upon; research opportunities persist, especially as new technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence) challenge the way performance is assessed.

The University of Maryland is active in the T&E ecosystem; this seminar will focus on some of the T&E efforts of UMD's Applied Research Lab for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) and UMD's Maryland Autonomous Technologies Research Innovation & Exploration (MATRIX) along with their collaborative efforts to stand up a Development, Test, Evaluation, Verification, and Validation (DTEVV) curriculum in the UMD ecosystem.

ARLIS’s Dr. Brian A. Weiss (Research Engineer) will highlight some of ARLIS’ T&E research and the Research for Intelligence and Security Challenges (RISC) summer internship program. The MATRIX Lab’s Dr. Donald Costello (Associate Research Professor) will brief on the MATRIX including their research, partnerships, and funding opportunities. Both will highlight their work to develop the DTEVV curriculum.

This seminar is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty who are interested to learn about these T&E efforts.
